Using the Product
Race Levels
NOTE: Due to the high performance nature of Race Product settings, on-highway usage
including towing or hauling loads is not legal. Towing or hauling loads while in Racing
levels will overstress the stock engine and transmission.
It is important to understand how the additional power may affect your vehicle.
Race levels one through three might reasonably be used with a stock truck, but work best
with additional upgrades you may have done to your vehicle.
The remaining Race levels are designed to be used with an upgraded drive train. If you
have modified your injectors, upgraded the transmission, changed a turbo or performed
other similar enhancements, these levels will match fueling to the additional performance
created by these upgrades. On a stock truck, it is possible to overstress the engine and
transmission while driving in higher levels.
EGT and Racing Levels
EGT (exhaust gas temperature) is the single most important indicator of how a diesel engine
is performing. For this reason, adding an EGT accessory may become one of the best
options you own and provide you peace of mind with real time display on the CS/CTS
device.
Unlike a gasoline engine, a diesel engine will continue to make power as more fuel is
added. As more fuel is added, more heat will be generated until the motor gets too hot and
components may begin to melt. This is a situation you want to avoid. Since temperature
fluctuations in exhaust gas are almost instantaneous, exhaust gas temperature is the ideal
measurement to determine engine temperature. It is possible to generate excessive EGT if
you are involved in competition motorsports. Also, keep in mind that EGT raises
significantly with RPM’s above 2500.
This is why we always recommend installing an EGT gauge or better still, to install an Edge
Product EGT sensor and CS/CTS device, which monitors EGT and will automatically alert
you when EGTs get too high.
Keep in mind, the stress on your engine created by the heat is a function of both temperature
and time. As you drive your vehicle in the various power settings, keep your eye on the
EGTs. Racing and competition Motorsports will require vigilance in monitoring your
EGT’s and maintaining safe EGT levels and the life of your engine.
CS/CTS Racing Device User Start-up
Once your CS/CTS Device is installed successfully and you have turned on your vehicle,
you will be prompted through the following screens. Note: The example device and screens
shown in following instruction is for the CTS device. The CS device is similar.
